Full-time · Amsterdam

About Avy

Avy pioneers unmanned aviation technology for emergency services, healthcare logistics, and security and intelligence.  We partner with innovative organizations that are among the first in the world to integrate long-range drone operations into their daily workflows.

We thrive on innovation, agility, and bold ideas and we’ve developed a range of cutting-edge products that are ready to make impact at scale. We’re an award-winning scale-up in the aviation industry and we pride ourselves on combining an innovative garage startup culture with being a professional and safety-minded aviation organisation.

About the role

Avy’s Flight Operations Team plays a central role in our mission. We lead both the technical and operational side of drone flight: carrying out test missions that drive the development of our flagship drone, Aera, and performing exciting demonstration flights and proof of concept operations, while also flying real-world operations with real-world impact.

Our drones are built to fly Beyond Visual Line Of Sight (BVLOS) and are operated through sophisticated software that allows Flight Operators to pre-plan fully automated mission profiles and then execute them with precision. As a Flight Operator, you will be the skilled pilot behind the scenes, turning complex flight plans into reality.

We are looking for a passionate new team member to bring these missions to life: ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient flights that serve a variety of important sectors, including Emergency Response, Monitoring and Inspections, Healthcare and Logistics, and Security and Intelligence.

You won’t just be pushing buttons: you’ll be part of a close-knit team that takes drone flight seriously. The role combines hands-on flying, fieldwork, and collaboration with internal and external partners, offering plenty of variety and challenge. It’s the perfect opportunity for someone eager to apply their aviation mindset and operational expertise to cutting-edge drone technology.

Key responsibilities

✅ Plan, organize and execute local and international drone missions
✅ Operate drones safely and efficiently in diverse environments, often under challenging conditions
✅ Gather flight data, report incidents, and contribute to continuous safety and performance improvements
✅ Support product and engineering teams with field testing and feedback
✅ Develop and document best practices and standard operating procedures
✅ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders during projects

About you

You are a proactive and resourceful person who thrives on responsibility and focus. You’re energized by being in the field - rain or shine - and bring creativity and structure to make each mission a success. You naturally balance risk and performance and remain calm under pressure.

We’re not necessarily looking for someone with drone flight experience (although that's a nice to have), but someone who brings the aviation mindset: a structured, safety-driven, and situationally aware approach to flying and operating aircraft.

You need to be a flexible and collaborative team player who’s excited to join a fun-loving crew and conquer the skies together.

Requirements

✔ Experience in aviation or comparable hands-on technical/operational field (drones, manned aircraft or similar)
✔ Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field
✔ Strong operational mindset with focus on safety, performance, and reliability
✔ Understanding of regulatory requirements for drone operations
✔ Experience with flight planning software
✔ Affinity for clear communication within flightcrews, as well as between larger teams and clients
✔ Attention to detail and precise way of working
✔ Flexibility to occasionally travel internationally for exciting projects
✔ Valid driver’s license
✔ Nice to have: EASA A1/A3 and EASA A2 license; RT license; proficiency in Dutch
