About the role
We’re looking for a motivated Working Student to actively support our drone operations. Your main responsibilities will be to assist as Ground Support Officer (GSO) and Payload Operator (PO) - two essential roles in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality flights.
As Ground Support Officer, you’ll help assemble the aircraft, prepare takeoff sites, manage batteries, and participate in checklists and safety procedures. You’ll work closely with both on-site and remote flight crews, maintaining clear communication and situational awareness. The role also includes preparing and transporting aircraft and equipment to flight locations using Avy’s company van and supporting loading and unloading tasks.
As Payload Operator, you’ll be trained to operate our sophisticated gimbal camera payloads during flights. You’ll play an active role in data collection by tracking, identifying points of interest, following moving objects, and ensuring that footage is properly recorded and processed after flights.
Key responsibilities
✅ Support drone assembly and ground operations following detailed checklists and safety procedures
✅ Maintain clear communication with on-site and remote flight crews
✅ Prepare, charge, and manage aircraft batteries and equipment
✅ Drive Avy’s company van to transport aircraft and equipment
✅ Set up and secure takeoff and landing sites
✅ Operate Avy’s camera payload during flights
✅ Contribute to overall operational safety and efficiency during missions
About you
You’re a bachelor or master student (preferably in engineering, aviation, robotics, or a related field) who thrives in a hands-on environment. You’re detail-oriented, proactive, and communicate clearly under pressure. You have great situational awareness and a strong sense of responsibility when working with complex technology and operational procedures.
You have a valid driver’s license (B) and are comfortable driving our a company van. You’re available two days per week, with some flexibility depending on weather conditions. You’re open to occasional travel within the Netherlands and Belgium, including possible overnight stays at flight locations.
